As You Consider Socialism

Socialism in Scripture? For more than one hundred years, the people of the United States have faced the choice of socialism versus freedom.

Generally, the people have spoken out for freedom and individual rights. Politicians have affirmed these values while campaigning, but not while legislating.

As Christians in America consider socialism, they are sometimes told about “welfare” in the Bible. They are told that a “safety-net” is consistent with Christian values. They are told, “God cares for the poor, and so should our nation.”

The Bible does in fact tell Christians to give to the poor. But the question at hand is who controls the giving? Should individuals give of their own goods, of their own choice? Or should a politician decide how much one owes—and to whom one owes it?

So Christians should ask: Does God have anything to say about socialism? Is “welfare” in the Bible? Let’s look into the Bible’s most famous case of “socialism.”

Drawing Lines on Islam

A logic puzzle:

What would you think if someone told you the following?

  1. I follow the Koran.
  2. The Koran tells me to lie, cheat, steal and kill in order to conquer you.
  3. I don’t want to do any of that.

What is the status of such a claim?

Refugees and Reporting

Like me, you’re probably wanting to know what’s happening with the Syrian refugees.

These are people. Families. If you’ve seen a picture of a three-year-old Syrian boy dead, you know that something absolutely must be done. We should be ashamed if our hearts were not big enough to help these human beings—these image-bearers of God Himself—in their time of distress.

So then, what are the facts? What’s the right thing to do? Is President Obama’s plan to admit 10,000 Syrian refugees moral?

Certainty, Judgment, and Planned Parenthood

Let the little children come to me,” said Jesus (Matthew 19:14). But see what happens to a nation when it ignores the heart of God.

Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils,
And shed innocent blood,
Even the blood of their sons and of their daughters,
Whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan:
And the land was polluted with blood.
Thus were they defiled with their own works,
And went a whoring with their own inventions.
Therefore was the wrath of the Lord kindled against his people,
Insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance (Psalm 106:37-40).

Righteous Judgment and Anger without Sin

At the release of the fourth video investigating Planned Parenthood’s selling of aborted babies, we see a continuing pattern: whenever Planned Parenthood denies a claim, more evidence comes forward, giving the lie to their press agents. For those working to protect the lives of unborn children, Planned Parenthood’s public relations nightmare is good news.

The Center for Medical Progress has bravely continued to release their videos, even in spite of a spurious restraining order imposed upon them by the Los Angeles Superior Court. Meanwhile, NPR and other “news” organizations pretend to cover the issue in an objective way while framing the issue in terms of “abortion rights” and “fetal tissue.”
